Homeowners have been urged to check the details of their home contents insurance before taking out cover for their baggage when they head on holiday.
The AA has stated that some policies provide cover for personal possessions when they are taken out of a property, meaning many people may not need additional cover when heading on a break.
Ian Crowder, the organisation's public relations manager, added that in most cases, such insurance will also cover people anywhere in the world.
He said: "If you have this cover, it will include all your property baggage, camera, personal effects, et cetera."
People could also reduce their travel insurance premiums by not taking out cover for luggage, he added.
According to Gapyear.com, around a quarter of young travellers in the UK head on trips abroad without proper insurance cover.
The website has stated that such a move could lead to many parents' homes and financial security being at risk.
